About Us

Any discussion about Carl’s Cakes has to start with Carl.

With more than 40 years in the bakery business, Carl Loeffel has paid his dues. Carl grew up in Monticello, Wisconsin, and in 1970 began working for the legendary Swiss Colony bakery in Monroe, where he honed his craft under the watchful eyes of his German, Austrian and Swiss mentors. After leaving to work at bakeries in Los Angeles and Colorado Springs, Carl moved back to Madison in 1985 to start Carl’s Cakes.

Over the years, Carl developed quite a reputation. With over 30 years of experience, Carl and his team can plan and execute any special cake, no matter the style or the budget. His exceptional cakes and delightful buttercreams have made Carl’s Cakes the most recommended cakes in the Madison area. A wedding cake is a piece of art…and Carl and his staff are artisans.

In February 2009, Carl and his team relocated and became a part of Market Street Diner and Bakery. Same great cakes, same talented staff…just a new, bigger location to provide even more cakes! Birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, bridal showers, weddings, baptisms or just because you love cake…we do them all. We have some of the most talented decorators anywhere, and can do a beautiful cake that people will be talking about until your next event.
